The story behind Arachne

I'm Warren, and I've always been into art. In high school I painted custom shoes and screen printed t-shirts, and I never really stopped making things.

The clothing started my freshman year of college. I'd seen videos of people turning tapestry blankets into hoodies, so I thrifted two and decided to try it. I made a pattern from a hoodie I liked, taping together a ton of 8x12 sheets of paper, and used the sewing machines my college offered. Those first two hoodies were not very good, but I still got a lot of compliments on them, and that was enough to keep me going.

Over the next couple of years I experimented with everything: more tapestry hoodies, reverse appliqué, denim, cotton French terry, cotton fleece.

In May 2026 I came back to tapestry hoodies with a bigger goal, to start a real business. I had never sold my work or tried to promote it before. I had five custom blankets made, and those became the first hoodies, the Monet collection. Then I started making hoodies from vintage quilts, and people liked those even more. So I found more quilts, offered more sizes, and hand drafted a full custom size guide. Recently I added jackets, and now the Customize page lets you design your own hoodie or jacket from mismatched patterns, matching patterns, or whatever you want.

The name comes from the Greek myth of Arachne. Before Athena turned her into the first spider, she was known as the best weaver in the world, and she wove tapestries. My business started with hoodies made from woven tapestries, so the name is a nod to that. We've grown into other things since, but it all still goes back to that.
